McKEAN -Fay J. "Jr." Moses, age 71, of 10931 Old Route 99, McKean, and formerly of Meadville, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at his home after a long illness. The complete obituary will be printed in Sunday's newspaper. Arrangements are by the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro.

McKEAN - Fay J. "Jr." Moses, 71, of Old Route 99, McKean, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at his home after a long illness. Born in Rundeltown, Pa., March 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Fay and Leona Cole Moses. Jr. graduated from high school in 1955 and started work the following year for the Meadville Bread Company, which later was known as Firch's Bakery and Stroehman's. He was a faithful employee for almost 43 years making deliveries in Meadville, Cambridge Springs, and Edinboro, and also working in sales until his retirement in 1998. Gardening was a very enjoyable pastime for Jr. Every year he would plant a large vegetable garden and then enjoy selling the produce at his roadside stand. He also was proud of the raspberries he grew. He was a member of the McKean Ushers Club, the Meadville Club, and the Eagles Club. He was preceded in death by a son, James Moses; a sister, Ruth Williams; two brothers, Alwin Moses and Fred Moses; and a niece, Cynthia Rohm. Those surviving in the family include his wife, Hazel Tallman Caldwell Moses, whom he married March 16, 1981; five children, Maria Soltis and husband Joseph, Debora Cornell, Robert Moses and wife Mary, all of Meadville, James Caldwell of Girard, and Gerald Caldwell of Edinboro; a sister, Dorothy Telliho of Meadville; also, 10 grandchildren, Christina Reynolds, Susan Soltis, Veronica Hall, Megan Frantz, Christina Pyle, Lisa Moses, Walter Cornell, Maria Sampson, Shawn Caldwell, and Jeremy Caldwell; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler Farrell, Cadence and Ian Reynolds, Luke and Elora Cornell, and Violet Sampson. Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro, Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. officiated by the Rev. Brian M. Kelly of McLane Church. Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery, McKean Township.

Nancy Rose (Aaron) O'Hara-Weigand, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Mary (Connor) Aaron and Paul S. Aaron on May 12, 1930, died quietly on May 21, 2017, in her adopted final home of New Smyrna Beach Florida. She had been living there with her daughter Phyllis' family and where she loved the Florida sun as hot as it could get. Nancy is survived by eight flourishing children and their agreeable spouses, 19 beautiful grandchildren, two brand spanking new great grandchildren and two sage siblings, all of whom enjoyed her company and dry wit.Nancy's surviving children and their spouses, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren are Christine (Roger) Winstanley and Annie (Conor) Tapp and Jake Winstanley; Kathleen (Lawrence) Laychak, and Marybeth (Andrew) Laychak-Odell and Jayne (Ryan) Laychak-Overturf and Wesley Overturf; Timothy (Mary) and Colin (Sona Simo) and Ana Natalia O'Hara and Kevin O'Hara; Mike (Cyndi) and Keegan, Patrick and Katie O'Hara; Bernadette (O'Hara) DeVault and Ryan, Sean and Brendan DeVault; Robert (aka R.J.) (Chris) and Connor and Brigid O'Hara and Alex (Fielding); Mary (Bud) Stellfox and Alison and Sadie Stellfox; and Phyllis (John) Junkin and Ian and Charlotte Junkin, who lovingly made a home and cared for Nancy for 5 years. Nancy is also survived by siblings, Brother Phil Aaron, of Dayton, Ohio (among other work, formerly principal of North Catholic High School), and Sister Mary Philip Aaron, of Greensburg (among other work, formerly principal of Sacred Heart High School). Nancy was preceded in death by her second husband, George Weigand, as well as by her first husband, Robert O'Hara, and by her siblings, Bernadette, who died at the tender age of 13 and of whom Nancy still had vivid memories, as well as her oldest brother Paul Jr. ("Bud") Aaron, a combat veteran, of Michigan, and by her brother Father James Aaron, who served various parishes around Pittsburgh.Nancy grew up in McKees Rocks and on the North Side of Pittsburgh, graduating from St. Benedict's High School. She had wonderful memories of always having a large extended family around while growing up - including the Burgunders and Aarons about whom she spoke of fondly, recalling the Aaron tennis courts, dances in Pittsburgh's long forgotten parks, summers on Conneaut Lake to escape the oppressive city heat and receiving visitors there, and the fun times of a simpler age. On and off, Nancy worked at the old Horne's Department Store, and for 15 years at the former Sacred Heart High School, where she was a student favorite despite being the attendance secretary. Nancy raised her family for a time on Pittsburgh's North Side and was a member of St. Cyril's parish, before the family moved to Emsworth, where the family joined Sacred Heart parish. In retirement, Nancy and George moved to Linesville and were members of St. Phillips parish. (A humorous "crowning" achievement for Nancy in Linesville, which she found amusing for "an old dame" in her late 70s, was being named the "Queen of Queens" for the Ducks Unlimited Parade and waving to parade goers while perched on the back of an open convertible.) What Nancy enjoyed most were family gatherings and good meals - whether prepared at home or out at a restaurant, assuming good service and better food was provided - and receiving news about the adventures and successes of her large family, whether the events were large or small. Her passing brought her relief from a long, quiet, brave battle with cancer. She was 87 years young and always curious about what would come next. She and her guidance and wit will be sorely missed.Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with the Rev. Patrick Quinn T.O.R. officiating. Norma Audrey (Ace) McCormick, 86, formerly of Meadville, residing with her son and daughter-in-law in Glen Burnie, MD. passed away on December 28, 2019 while visiting with family in Pittsburgh, PA at St. Clair Hospital.Born in Licking Township, Clarion County, PA, September 11, 1933. Daughter of the late Stanley Harold Ace and Laura Marcella Showers Ace. She married Charles F. McCormick on April 30, 1956, he preceded her in death. Peacefully, in Pittsburgh, on May 7, 2019 Joyce (Adlis) Cortes, age 74, of Pittsburgh. Born on August 22, 1944 in Philadelphia to Michael Adlis and Myrtle Arrowsmith Adlis. She is survived by her loving children Lisa Blough (Matthew) of Pittsburgh, Candice Mandera (James) of Medina, OH, Ricardo Cortes (Alison Nicoll) of Los Gatos, CA, and Victoria Cortes of Manassas, VA. She was a beloved Grandmother to Meredith, Clayton and Griffin Blough, Madelyn, Avery and William Mandera, Ewan and Kyle Cortes, and Liam Hickernell. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Candido of 39 years and her brother-in-law Neal Harman. She is survived by her sister Gloria Harman.Joyce graduated from Forest City Regional High School in 1962 and attended nursing school to obtain her RN degree. She worked briefly at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Albany, NY, where she met Candido. The newlyweds lived in Albany, Schenetdady and Cornwall, NY before moving to Linesville. In 1973, the family settled in Meadville. In 1981, Joyce joined the nursing staff at Winslow Health Center, Allegheny College, where she worked for 29 years. Joyce's personality was a perfect fit for a career in nursing. She was a naturally caring person who loved interacting with the students and providing them with a nurturing environment away from home. Joyce loved her nursing career and was proud that all four of her children obtained their Bachelor Degrees from Allegheny College.Joyce was an avid reader and will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and her passion for life. She enjoyed cooking family dinners, swimming, fishing with Candido, and spending family vacations at the beach. Diane Eileen (Agnew) Rhodes, 66, passed away on April 17, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Meadville, PA on March 3, 1953, daughter of the late John and Betty Agnew. Diane, or "Dee Dee" to her family, was the librarian of the Shontz Memorial Library in Conneaut Lake. She previously served as librarian at the Henretta Memorial Library in Harmonsburg. Diane was well known in the Conneaut Lake community through her work at the Library, where she also ran children's story hour and the summer reading program. Diane was a long time member and board member of the Shady Avenue Association, and she loved to spend summer days at the beach and evenings watching sunsets. She enjoyed participating in a long running book club with her friends, and would often walk along the streets of the east side of Conneaut Lake with those same friends. Diane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she seemed to have an unlimited supply of energy, time and patience to provide to her family. With her family, every conversation ended with an "I love you", and every visit with a hug. Although she passed so unexpectedly, those close to her knew they were loved, and she knew that she was loved in return. She was selfless and gave of herself every day until she went to sleep knowing she had given all she had to her family and friends. Margaret E. (Albaugh) Gandziarski, 84, of Cochranton, formerly of West Hickory, PA, passed away November 27, 2018 at Meadville Medical Center. She was born on January 10, 1934 to Merle and Elizabeth (Anthony) Albaugh in Creighton, PA. She married Joseph A. Gandziarski on June 27, 1953. He survives.Margaret was a 1953 graduate of East Deer Frazier High School. She was a homemaker and of Protestant faith. Norma Rebecca (Allen) Tau, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2020. Norma was a resident of Brevillier Village for the past 6 years. She previously resided for a short time in Wattsburg, PA but raised her family in Venango, PA.Norma was born on August 26, 1932 in Amity Township, Wattsburg, PA to Neil and Lena Allen. She graduated from Union City High School in 1950 and received her Elementary Education degree from Edinboro State Teachers College in 1954. Later she took coursework, specific to educating children with hearing impairments, through Penn State University. Norma taught second grade for three years in Meadville, PA. In 1958 she started the Crawford Counties New Sensory handicapped class for children with hearing impairments. She continued in the field of deaf education through the North West Tri-County Intermediate Unit #5 until her retirement in 1993.On June 13, 1959, Norma married her sweetheart, John H. Tau. They raised their family in Venango, PA. Their children include: Ruthann (Jerry) Lawton of Norwich, NY, James (Ruthanne) Tau of Martinez, GA, and John (Kathleen) Tau of Wattsburg, PA. They have been blessed with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.Norma loved humanity, especially children. She was involved in children's ministries and enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. Music was also an integral part of her life and has been carried on through her children. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and driving their motorhome.Norma is survived by her husband of sixty years and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents Neil and Lena Allen, sister Charlotte R. Steves, and brother Arthur N. Dorothy "Arlene" (Andrews) Heffern, age 97, of Conneaut Lake, PA, passed away March 22, 2019 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Home. She was born April 25, 1921 in East Fallowfield Township to the late Paul Leroy and Thelma A. (Reaugh) Andrews. She married Walter Leroy Heffern in June 11, 1938. They were married for 69 years, before Walt passed away March 14, 2008.Dorothy Arlene attended East Fallowfield Schools and Conneaut Lake High School. She worked at Talon in Meadville as an assembler and in various levels of zipper manufacturing throughout her career at Talon, and retired after 37 years. Her husband, Walt, was enrolled in the Merchant Marines, and worked at McCrosky's Tool & Die until his retirement.She was a dedicated housewife, mother and grandmother, always cooking delicious meals, baking decadent desserts, and giving thoughtful gifts and cards to her family. She enjoyed going on bus trips with her sister, Pauline, and became a member of the Red Hat Society in her later years.Dorothy Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; twin sons, Robert Leroy and William Earl (who passed at birth); and James Walter. Frances (Frannie) A. Hohol, of Spartansburg, is now counted among the Saints in Heaven; joyfully reunited with her husband, Andrew William Hohol II (deceased Sept. 12, 1972); daughter, Priscilla Heidi Hohol (1944-2005); her parents, Florence (Baldwin) and Earl Archer; 6 siblings, Hester, Neal, Walter, Grace, Blanche, and Raymond Earl (Bud); Earl (Shorty) Southall, her companion of 10 years; along with many other cherished friends, Hohol Tavern patrons and family members on October 20, 2016, a Century after arriving in Ripley, NY.Frances lost both of her parents in 2 separate tragic accidents (a car/train and a car/Dunkirk ice cream truck). She and her young brother, Raymond Earl (Bud) were orphans before they were teenagers and Frances lived with several of her older married siblings as a Nanny/housekeeper until she was old enough to get out on her own. She had an 8th grade education and always regretted never learning to ride a bicycle. Few people can say they actually met and knew Veterans of the Civil War, but she told of many.She married Andrew W. Hohol II and lived in Hershey, Lawrence Park, Franklin, and finally settled in Spartansburg. She and her husband, Andy II, bought a house on Route 77, Spartansburg and turned it into a home and business, Hohol's Tavern. He died September 12, 1972, from complications of Diabetes.Two children came of their union: Priscilla Heidi (born 1944 and died 2005 in the flower bed outside Frances' home) and Andrew III, now living in Meadville with wife, Cherie G (Jones).Frances raised her family in the rear of the tavern and the upstairs bedrooms, while running the business in the front rooms of their home. She (along with her husband, Andy II, until his death), were Hohol's Tavern's cook, dishwasher, laundress, janitor, bar tender, waitress, mother and wife for over 50 years. She enjoyed cooking the foods that met the needs of the locals, as well as hunters and fishermen passing thru the area. Menu specials included Spanish Rice or Spaghetti with sauce she had been simmering for 2 days on the burner in the kitchen, or reportedly one of the best burgers in the State. If she did not sell all of her kitchen creations, the family ate the leftovers. She even prepared special holiday meals for special friends and patrons if they needed it. She loved people and they loved her. She was an interesting and well-read conversationalist about all topics of the day, as might be expected from a woman that talked to all sorts of people all day for a living for almost 60 years.She was also the BOUNCER for Hohol's Tavern. She was known as Aunt Frannie to the locals that frequented Hohol's Tavern for a shot and a beer. However, if anyone had too much to drink or wanted to start a fight, she was the one to shut them off and send them out into the parking lot. She may have been petite but she had a voice that people did not question. If they thought they were going to stand up to her, she kept a Double Barrel Break Action 20 Gauge LC Smith under the counter of the bar and was not afraid to bring it out and let them know she would use it. She even stood up to Senator Roland B. Mahany and threw him out of her Tavern because he tried to block the approval of their Liquor License in 1947.Interesting fact: The ERIE TIMES NEWS had a two page article about Frannie when she was recognized as the Longest Operating Sole Proprietor in the Commonwealth of PA.Hohol's Tavern, Spartansburg, was in business from 1947 to 2005 without losing 1 day to the Liquor Control Board.She loved to dance in her younger days. She enjoyed mowing her own yard and playing cards until she was 95 never needing a calculator to keep score. She played to win and usually did! That must be why she rooted for the Steelers and even kicked her son out for wearing his Brown's hat to her house!She jogged 4 miles a day well into her 60's and 70's and was walking 4 miles a day with her neighbor into her 80's.Four Grandchildren, Jennifer (Hohol) Baughman, Joey Elizabeth, Jesse Katherine, and Andrew William Hohol IV. Four Great Grandchildren and the youngest, 11 month old Guinevere Hohol, came to her recent 100'th birthday celebration at Crawford County Care Center.Nieces, Wanda Wilcox, Mary Holtzer and Jeannie Dalla Torre, held a special place in her heart, having been a surrogate mother at times of need in their lives.In the early years of the Tavern, she supplemented the income by working at Woolworth, Erie and Continental Rubber in Erie where she inspected Gas Masks during the World War 2. She harvested Christmas trees for Rossbacher with many women working for her driving thru the woods in an International Scout. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Corry, PA 25 years. She was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion. Never without a 4-Wheel Drive Pick-up truck, she never drove past someone that needed to be pulled out of the ditch. Her yard was kept so well-manicured and she continually increased it in size that her kids teased her it was going to be a golf course someday. Her Green Thumb was apparent in her flower gardens. Perhaps it was assistance from her chickens that made her gardens grow. Decorating for holidays brought great fun for her children and grandchildren. But, all their shared times were filled with love, often in the form of special menu items, in particular her Macaroni Salad and Apple Pies (peeled fresh). During the years that her sisters and brothers were alive, she spent as much time as possible with them playing 500 Rummy, picnics at Presque isle and shopping, perhaps because of her childhood as an orphan. Winter vacations in Punta Gorda, FL, with Shorty Southall in her later years renewed her vigor for life. She loved to play practical jokes. Driving her Ford 4X4 Pick-up until she was past 95, she found pleasure going into Spartansburg or Corry to have coffee or breakfast with the waitresses or her friends at her favorite hot spots. Her Century of life will be celebrated at the Bracken Funeral Home Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry on Tuesday October 25, 2016. ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Margaret Duke (Barber) passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday, May, 17, 2015, on her beloved St. Simons Island, Ga., surrounded by love. Margaret was born in Mottram, England, to her parents, Joseph and Mary Barber. She was raised by her grandmother until her death and then came home to Duckinfield to live with her parents. She adored her grandmother, her parents and her three sisters. Margaret pursued a teaching degree and taught kindergarten at Globe Lane Nursery and Primary School in Duckinfield, England. She loved babies and children. As a young woman Margaret had beautiful dark hair with piercing blue eyes and porcelain skin. She met her husband, William Clyde Duke, when he was stationed in Germany where they fell in love and married on Christmas Eve 1955. This past Christmas they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Margaret immigrated to the United States with William and they settled in Renova. Her mother-in-law took the young bride under her wing and Margaret loved her very much. Margaret and Bill moved to Williamsport and then on to Colorado. They returned from Colorado to Pennsylvania where they lived in Cambridge Springs, Blooming Valley and finally settling in Black Ash. Margaret and Bill had two foster children and she is survived by her five children and 14 grandchildren who all loved her very much. Her dream was to become a nurse and so after having five children she went back to school and received her nursing degree. Mojo was her constant companion throughout her illness. Margaret loved traveling and was always up for an adventure. She loved being outdoors and spent many hours picking blueberries and enjoying the birds and flowers in her garden, even performing chest compressions on a hummingbird that had hit a window. It sat in her hand until it recovered and flew off. Margaret loved the mountains and the ocean and for the last 12 years spent the winters on St. Simons Island. She loved sitting by the lighthouse watching for dolphins. To all who knew her she was precious; everyone who met her loved her English accent. She made a difference in so many people’s lives and she was loved and will be forever cherished by all who knew her. ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Margaret Duke (Barber) passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday, May, 17, 2015, on her beloved St. Simons Island, Ga., surrounded by love. Her mother-in-law took the young bride under her wing and Margaret loved her very much. Margaret and Bill moved to Williamsport and then on to Colorado. They returned from Colorado to Pennsylvania where they lived in Cambridge Springs, Blooming Valley and finally settling in Black Ash. Margaret and Bill had two foster children and she is survived by her five children and 14 grandchildren who all loved her very much. Her dream was to become a nurse and so after having five children she went back to school and received her nursing degree. Ronald O. (Barney) Barnard, 84, formerly of Meadville and resident of Canadohta Lake died Sunday, December 10, 2017.He was born in Meadville December 4, 1933 a son of Oliver C. and Pauline Murphy Barnard. He married Carol Smith Witscher July 10, 1999 and she survives.He was a 1951 graduate of Meadville High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving the US Air Force from 1951-1955. He worked on the Erie-Lackawanna and Conrail railroads for over 30 years, retiring as an engineer. He was a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234, Scottish Rite Bodies and member and Past Monarch of Kismet Grotto. He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #219 and a member of Huidekoper VFW Post #2006, Cambridge Springs American Legion Post #381 and the Presque Isle Beagle Club. Doris Jane (Bickerstaff) Rose, 97 of Meadville and a resident of Wesbury, died peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018. She was born in Irwin, PA on April 10, 1920 a daughter of Harry and Muriel Barton Bickerstaff. She married Robert (Bob) E. Rose on December 19, 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1978.She was a 1938 graduate of Norwin High School in Irwin and worked on the family farm in the 1950's. She worked in bookkeeping, retail, as a nanny, and worked at a ceramics factory and a bakery in Colorado, as well as at Aerojet General in California. Locally, she worked at the former Wood's Red and White Grocery Store in Cochranton and also at Vicke's Sewing Notion in Meadville.Doris loved crafting, hand quilting, reading, gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, and playing games with family and friends. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.She was an original member of the Country Crafters in 1979, a charter member and former president of the Friends of the Cochranton Public Library, and a former member of the Cochranton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a longtime RSVP Volunteer, logging many hours crocheting mittens for Head Start, as well as hand quilting for the Meadville YWCA and Cochranton Library. She also volunteered at Wesbury.Survivors include her children, Adrienne L. Geddes of Meadville, Robert F. Rose of Meadville and Daniel J. (Margarida) Rose of Sandy Lake. Grandsons, Major Sean C. Rose of Louisville, KY, and Drew S. Rose of New Albany, OH. Eleanor Ann "Annie" (Bossard) Proper Moore, 92, of Meadville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Meadville Medical Center. Annie was born in Cleveland, OH, on April 23, 1930, a daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude (O'Rourke) Bossard.In August, 1950 she married Raymond Proper; he preceded her in death in 1979. Subsequently, she married John R. Moore, who also preceded her in death in 2001. She was salutatorian of Townville High School's 1948 graduating class. After 20 years of service, Annie retired as a Ward Secretary at Meadville Medical Center. Upon her retirement in 1991 she called Sebring, FL, her home for the next 25 years. There, she became employed at a flower shop where she would display her creativity, working until the age of 85. She was also involved in a craft co-op in Lake Placid, FL. No matter what Annie set out to do, her work ethic was strong. She was salutatorian of Townville High School's 1948 graduating class. Her hobbies and interests included playing cards, reading, shopping and movie outings with her friends. Upon moving back to Meadville, she made Juniper Village her home for the past five years. She enjoyed staying busy crafting, doing word puzzles, playing Fast Track, and she appreciated weekly Communion while staying true to her Catholic faith. She will be remembered as a friendly, caring and loving mother to her five children and cherished (as she would say) "bringing up the family." Annie loved all her family deeply and loved being "Gramma Annie" to her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her grandchildren and she loved watching them grow. Christine "Chris" (Bowden) Brooks, 59, of Glovers Church, Road, Bennett, North Carolina, passed away peacefully and angels picked her up and carried her home on Feb. 12, 2017. She was in the University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill, NC, after a courageous battle with cancer.She was born on March 13, 1957, in Meadville, Pa., the daughter of James B. and Alice E. Bowden. She was a 1975 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School and attended the Behrend Campus in Erie, Pa., of Penn State University. She served four years in the U.S. Army being stationed in Germany during her tour of service.She made her home in North Carolina for the last 40 years, living in Siler City, Greensboro and Bennett. She was a member of the Glover United Church of Christ in Bennett, NC.She was married to Paul Clinton Rayvohn Brooks who preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1995.She leaves to cherish her memories a very significant other, Dennis Milton Walden of Bennett, NC, two stepsons, Dexter L. Nancy (Boylan) Terrill, age 83, of 22577 Hwy 77, Meadville passed on to her eternal home in Heaven on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Meadville Medical Center. She was born on July 23, 1935, at her first childhood home in Cambridge Springs, daughter of the late William Boylan and Martha Blanchard Boylan. Nancy married her childhood sweetheart, Clarence L. Terrill, on August 21, 1954, and he survives. Nancy and Clarence resided just outside of Cambridge Springs for 53 years in the house that Clarence built for her. In 2007, they moved to Meadville to downsize and to be closer to the New Beginnings Church of God where they faithfully attended.Nancy graduated from Cambridge Springs High School in 1953. She worked at Ken's Pharmacy in Cambridge Springs behind the ice cream counter, the PA State Game Farm in Cambridge Springs, and the I.G.A. grocery store in Edinboro. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved being with her family, friends, and church family; playing cards and games or just spending time visiting others. She also loved being a hostess in her home, having people in for meals, or making a meal for someone who was ill or in need.To all who knew her, she was considered a sweetheart-and a sweet, caring heart was exactly what she had. She was constantly searching for anyone in need and trying to find a way to help them, many times sacrificing greatly to do so, and would never take any credit for anything she would do for someone. She gave all the credit to God whom she loved so much. Many, including her family and friends and anyone else who ever knew her, would say she was the most selfless, caring and giving individual they had ever met or known. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched. It is with great sadness that the family of Gail Ann McClure (nee Briggs), 73, announces her passing on September 29, 2017, following sudden illness.Gail was born April 24, 1944 in Erie, PA. She attended elementary and junior high school in nearby Girard, PA. She moved to Jackson, MI, where she completed high school. Gail graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in education. She lived in Kalamazoo, MI from 1971 to 1980 and taught third grade in the Coloma School District.In 1980, Gail changed careers by moving to Clarkston, MI and joining Craft Baressi Consultants as a labor relations consultant. She worked with many clients throughout the Midwest, as well as the Southwest from the company's Houston office.In 1989, Gail married Richard (Dick) McClure and moved to Meadville, PA, where her husband's business was located. Ready for another challenge, she bought the Quilt Square in Meadville, running it successfully for a decade and teaching quilting classes to beginners and advanced students. She continually developed innovative ways to streamline some of the repetitive steps in fashioning quilts.In 1998, after vacationing for several years in New Hampshire, Dick and Gail built their forever home in Hales Location, NH.She quickly put her masterful quilting skills to good use, founding the Material Girls quilting group, which made and donated quilts to charitable organizations here in the Valley and throughout the world. The group made quilts annually for RSVP to auction as a fundraiser. Their quilts have gone to Starting Point, Wrap-a-Smile, Merriman House, Angels and Elves, White Mountain Health Center, Camp Sunshine, Project Linus, Carroll County Nursing Home, and many other organizations. When the Carroll County home opened their new facility, the Material Girls ensured there was a new quilt for every room in the facility. Gail personally donated several quilts that hang in Memorial Hospital, as well as one at Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital. She also made quilts for every family member of the Wounded Warriors who were honored by that project hosted in the Valley for several years.Her charitable nature benefited the visitors to the Valley. Gail volunteered in the information booth run by the Chamber of Commerce. For 10 years, she spent her Saturday mornings cheerfully greeting visitors and helping them make their stays more enjoyable.Gail was also politically active. She recruited and led volunteers from Hales Location to handle the voting for Hales under the direction of the Conway supervisor.Those who knew Gail were also impressed with her gifted athleticism. While she lived in Kalamazoo, MI, she spent most winter weekends at Boyne Mountain skiing. She was a competitive downhill racer and made annual trips to Aspen.Additionally, Gail was an A-level tennis player and played in singles and doubles leagues in Kalamazoo. She worked as a volunteer in the USTA Boys Nationals held in Kalamazoo. Years later, she would point out with pride the progress of "her" boys as they matured and rose in the pro rankings.Later in life, Gail became an avid golfer, traveling extensively with her husband to play courses around the country and Hawaii. She affectionately suggested that she and Dick play 18 holes at Pebble Beach for their 18th wedding anniversary, creating the trip of a lifetime and a treasure of memories.In addition to her loving husband, Gail is survived by her stepdaughter, Ellen McClure of Evanston, IL (Dan Cherry), stepson, Rick McClure of Ellicott City, MD (Julie), and two grandchildren. Gail will also be remembered fondly by her twin sisters Jane [Rich] Kusnir of Point Clinton, OH and Janet [John] Ryskamp of Fennville, MI, as well as 4 nieces and nephews. SAEGERTOWN - Betty Lou (Briggs) Wetsell, 84, of Saegertown, passed away, Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Crawford County Care Center. She was born on December 29, 1933, in Venango, PA, she was a daughter of the late Carlton and Mattie Humes Briggs. She married Ray E. Wetsell on October 26, 1952, he preceded her in death on March 1, 2013.Betty attended First Baptist Church and Guys Mills Senior Center. She volunteered at Wesbury mending the clothes of residents for over 20 years and also served at the Meadville Community Soup Kitchen through the First Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed sewing, baking, going to auctions to buy dolls for her collection, visiting Amish Country, and she wrote a short story about a childhood experience.To Betty her family was everything, she always enjoyed playing games and doing puzzles with them, attending all of her grandchildren's events, and she created journals for all her grandchildren.Betty is survived by two daughters, Donna Wetsell of Butler and Deneen Mangan and her husband Mark of Ormond Beach, Florida; two sons, Daniel Wetsell and his wife Brenda of Blooming Valley and David Wetsell and his wife Linda of Saegertown; nine grandchildren, Darlene Long and her husband Dan, Danielle Dick and her husband Craig, Tim Wetsell, Ben Wetsell, Brittany Mangan, Kyle Mangan, Kellie Mangan, Carri Pakozdi, and Chad Pakozdi; four great grandchildren, Kaylee Long, Brooklynn Hudson; Shelby Long, and Dakota Hudson; two sister in laws, Lillian Briggs and Mae Lenhart; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.In addition to her loving husband, Ray; she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Darlene Wetsell; a brother, Merle Briggs; three sisters, Barbara Yanc, Coral Boor, and Carlotta Briggs; and several special nieces and nephews.Family and friends are welcome to call on Saturday, October 13th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Ryan M. Sandra "Sandy" Lee (Brightman) Markley, age 72, of Meadville passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Meadville Medical Center. Born July 6, 1946 in Jamestown, NY she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Lillian Ruth (Burch) Brightman.Sandy was an artist at heart. She was very creative and talented making many beautiful drawings and various crafts. She enjoyed gardening, hunting for antiques, singing songs, and most of all spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.Sandy worked for the Erie and Meadville Chambers of Commerce, JC Penny's Department Store, and Eriez Magnetics. As the past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 742, Sandy also enjoyed volunteering her time in helping others.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Markley, at birth and a brother, Wilfred R. Helen Leona McCracken (Brown) (Wescott), 76, of Meadville, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018, at AristaCare at Park Avenue. Helen was born in Meadville, on April 13, 1942, a daughter of the late Fred and Frances (Heckman) McCracken.In her younger years Helen was employed by the Unity Center in Meadville and attended St. Paul&apos;s Reformed Church. She was the second class to graduate from the then new, Meadville High School. Helen enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. She equally enjoyed looking after her grandchildren and the children of others and was fondly called "mom" by many individuals. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, taking care of her animals, and she had a passion for flower gardening. Her greatest love in life was watching her children and grandchildren grow and following their sports activities. She will be sadly missed by all. Adda Mae (Buchanan) Free, 81, of Cochranton (Deer Creek Township) passed into God's hands from Pulmonary Fibrosis on Monday, December 5, 2016 with her husband by her side.Born June 29th, 1935 in French Creek Twp, she was the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Buchanan. Her lifetime of achievements started following her loved filled marriage to her husband Gene on October 10th 1953. Together they served as outstanding citizens to their community. She held many different titles among the community such as Mrs. Free the bus driver, the pioneer lady, and to so many children just simply Grandma Free.Some of her lifetime passions included being a school bus driver for Commodore Perry School for over 40 years. She was also the Butterfly Garden Grandma for Commodore Perry's outdoor classroom. She loved bringing wildlife and environmental programs to the students. Another Passion of hers was volunteering at Goddard State Park where she served as a member of the FROGS (Friends of Goddard State Park) program. She loved greeting everyone at the annual Pioneer Frolic held every June. She was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church and loved sharing her faith with her family. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Adda was loved by all who knew her. Her smile was contagious and her heart was full of love, kindness, and selflessness. She was a wonderful example of faith, hope, and charity. Although the list of awards and achievements could go on and on, Adda was too humble of a person for her family to list them all.In addition to her husband Gene of 63 years, she is survived by a son Gary Free of Hadley and his wife Donalea, two daughters, Linda Peak of Cochranton and her husband Bobbie, and Jackie Marlowe of Jensen Beach FL and her Husband Dan. Helen Lucille (Burdette) Komar, 91, formerly of Cochranton, died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, in Conneautville where she has resided since 2010. Born, April 18, 1924 in Girard, Ohio, she was the daughter of Oscar W. and Mildred I. Snyder Burdette. She married John E. Komar on January 15, 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1957.She worked at Morco in Cochranton as well as WinTronic and Wesbury United Methodist Community.Survivors include her son Roland J. Komar of Cochranton and a daughter, Dorothy A. Tilson and her husband Russ of Adrian, Michigan. She was born September 13, 1950 to JoAnne (Jordan) and the late Budd Burlingham. She married Charles Palmer November 27, 1971. He preceded her in death March 21, 2016.Barbara graduated from Pymatuning Valley High School in Andover, OH in 1968.She attended St. Paul's Reformed Church.Barbara enjoyed cake decorating, making floral arrangements, fishing and spending time with family. She was very involved with the Keystone Blind Association. She also helped her husband, Chuck start the Little Gridders Football Program and traveled to Moscow with the program. LINESVILLE — Charles Emil Kappelt Jr. (Chuck), 70, of Linesville began his final journey on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015. Chuck was born on March 3, 1944, in Erie. He was a son of Charles Emil Kappelt Sr. and Margaret Welch Kappelt. He married Linda Careless on Oct. 31, 1981. Chuck had just completed almost 50 years of employment as a tool engineer with the Molded Fiber Glass Tray Co. (Toteline) where he had just received the MFG “Pioneer Award.” He was also the owner and co-owner of several patents and lived his life solving complicated designs. He was an accomplished engineer, an honest man and a true blue friend to those who had the pleasure of his friendship. Chuck was a member of the local Pine Masonic Lodge 498 in Linesville and a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church. In the spring Chuck enjoyed cultivating the trees on his property for firewood and in the winter he loved a good book and a great glass of wine. He loved his family passionately and considered himself a very “clever and lucky fellow.” Chuck was a talented metal and wood worker, a novice gunsmith and could “engineer” any intricate puzzle that came his way. He was encouraged by his heritage as he compiled an extensive family history and had just begun writing his first book. He built his own home, restored catamarans and had discovered a new joy in kayaking. Two years ago Chuck found renewed strength in his faith as he and Linda began directing the youth group of Jamestown Presbyterian Church, where each meeting and mission trip with the youth energized both his soul and his spirit. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 33 years; and their children, Carly A. Kappelt of Sharon and David C. Kappelt of Edinboro; and the “apple of eye,” his granddaughter, Bethany Hill, who helped “Papa” remember the joy of just being a kid. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Kappelt Zalonis, and a brother, Eric Kappelt, both of Erie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Mary Kathleen Kappelt Skol. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 Route 6, Linesville. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 411 Liberty St., Jamestown, with Pastor Donald F. Stanley Jr. of the church officiating. She attended the University of Kentucky from 1973 to 1974 and graduated from Penn State Behrend campus in 1976. She was a registered nurse in the ICU at Meadville Medical Center, Mease Dunedin Hospital and Franklin Hospital.She was affiliated with Living Waters Church, Meadville, Pa. She was a volunteer with a local animal rescue center. She enjoyed traveling, attending music concerts and spending time with her four dogs and her family.Candace is survive by her husband, John Whitling; two sisters, Jayla S. May 16, 2022 from a battle with Alzheimer's disease.Shirley was born in Linesville, PA, on July 24, 1936, to Clarence Frank and Myrtle (Oates) Coulter. She grew up in Linesville and married Bruce R. Foust on March 2, 1955.Many people will remember Shirley from Integra Bank in Conneaut Lake, PA, where she served 40 years and 5 months and retired May 30, 1995.She was a very active member of her community. She volunteered for the Salvation Army Conneaut Like Unit for 32 years, was a member of the Rebekahs of Conneaut Lake Lodge 142, a member of the Linesville Grange, and was a lifetime member of the Pymatuning Sportsman's Club. She always made sure her family and friends were taken care of. In her spare time Shirley loved to mow the grass and watch Westerns on the television. Velma Arleene (Crosley) Smith, 89, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Meadville Medical Center; she was surrounded by her family.Velma was born in Mosiertown, on July 29, 1929, a daughter of the late Carrol Glen and Blanche Dorothy (Davidson) Crosley.On November 8, 1947 Velma married James W. Smith; he preceded her in death on February 13, 1987.She was an active member of United Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer where she served as a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.In 1994 Velma retired as Secretary to the Divisional Claims Superintendent and Agency Director of State Farm Insurance Company where she had worked since 1977. She had previously been employed by the former Gelvin, Jackson, Starr Insurance Agency. Velma enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. A 1946 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School, she enjoyed playing the violin as a student. A member of the Eat and Travel Club, she was also a member of Active Aging Line-Dancing Group, and a former member of Watson Run Womens Club and of Vernon Grange. She enjoyed dancing, watching the Lawrence Welk Show, playing cards and traveling. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lela G. Shadle, 87, formerly of Cochranton died on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at The Caring Place in Franklin, PA after a lengthy illness. Lela was born in Franklin on July 2, 1931, a daughter of Charles J. and Hazel E. Rodgers Cutchall. She graduated in 1949 from Cochranton High School. She married Lewis G. Shadle on January 1, 1953.Lela was self-employed as a reflexologist, a school bus driver for the Wattsburg Area School District, Manifold, and Erie Resistor. She was also a representative for Avon, Artex, and Dutch Maid products. Lela was an avid reader and had various hobbies including beekeeping, gardening and homesteading.Survivors include her seven children, Gene Shadle and his wife Colleen of Erie, Cherri Ficarra and her husband Daniel of Westfield, NY, Laurie Haibach and her husband Harold of Union City, Edward Shadle and his wife Sheryl of Canfield, OH, Jeanette Duryea and her husband Barry of Wattsburg, Jack Shadle and his companion Gloria of Harborcreek and Beth Miller and her husband Tim of Pataskla, OH, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rita Mary Lopus (née Dahlkemper) died surrounded by her family on May 30, 2017 at her home of the last several years in Tallmadge, OH. The red of her immaculate nail polish matched the beads of the rosary she held. Rita was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Over the course of her professional life she worked as a secretary at both GMAC and SA Wagner. She held a bookkeeping position for Ferry Trucking Co. in Saegertown, worked in the Saegertown High School cafeteria, and for many years enjoyed a thriving business as a Tupperware Sales manager.For 58 years Rita has been a member of Saint Bernadette parish in Saegertown where she also had long tenures as president of the Altar Rosary Society. She was an active member of the Meadville Medical Center (formerly Spencer Hospital) Auxiliary for 43 years and had belonged to the Vernon Grange. She greatly enjoyed her many hours of volunteering. For decades, she and her husband Ralph opened their home for grand Fourth of July celebrations. Her baked goods won awards at the Crawford County Fair. She was wise, kind, and always full of fun, encouragement, and wisdom. She loved playing cards - the Waterford-based card club met for more than 60 years, and the local Bridge Club gave her great joy.Her stove was always warm, and her schedule was always full. She kept a diary of her activities and those of her family for decades. She could always supply a story of her own to a family gathering, and often served as a fact-checker on the stories others would tell about days gone by. She was an active grandmother, often acting as nurse during illness, or as a child-sitter for weekend getaways so that parents could have a "break". She provided a snowy slope for her grandchildren to sled down in winter, and hot cocoa to warm them up when they were done.Rita's strong Catholic faith and devotion to praying the Rosary daily have been foundational in the lives of her family and friends. Mary Ann (Damico) Costa, 76, of 781 Mohican Place, Meadville, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, at home.Mary Ann was born in Meadville, on July 20, 1940, a daughter of the late Anthony "Tony" Joseph and Mary (Monarch) Damico.On September 21, 1961 Mary Ann married Guy D. Costa; he survives.She was an active member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. For many years she volunteered with the annual Columbus Day Dinner. Mary Ann was a prayerful person and very devoted to offering daily prayers for her family and friends.Mary Ann graduated from Meadville High School in 1959. Over the years she had been employed by the former Talon, Inc., Baskin Robbins, Costa's Pizza and Crawford Central School District. In 2001 she retired from Nutrition Services of Crawford Central School District where she had primarily worked at the Meadville High School Cafeteria. There she became a friend to many co-workers, teachers and students. She was a member of the Italian Civic Club. She volunteered her time and talents with the ARC of Crawford County where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2004. Mary Ann enjoyed her weekly luncheons with her Aunt Rose. An avid watcher of television, she was given the "Queen of Showtime" Award from Armstrong Cable. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, working crossword puzzles and playing the lottery and well as the daily number. Undoubtedly Mary Ann's greatest joy in life was anything involving her grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Joseph and Christopher. She loved each and every one of her family, but her grandsons were the love of her life. Rochelle Annette (Davison) Seuffer, 51, of Greencastle, PA passed away October 9, 2019 in her home after a courageous battle against breast cancer with her husband Jason of 17 years by her side. Rochelle was employed as a program analyst for Citi Bank in Hagerstown for 20 years where she was loved and respected. She was passionate about participating with the March of Dimes Organization as well as participating in Earth Day events that gave her an excuse to be out gardening. She was a talented seamstress and found great joy in decorating cakes for the family events. Her greatest passion was her family. Her whole life was dedicated to her family. Anne J. (Dupal) Murrin, age 100, of N. Second St. Greenville, passed away at her home on Saturday afternoon 7-2-16. She was born in Homestead, PA March 4, 1916 to John and Mary (Zaluzicky) Dupal. In the early 1920's the family relocated to Hartstown, PA and Anne graduated in 1934 from North Shenango High School. She later became a Registered Nurse during WWII, graduating from what was then the Spencer Hospital School of Nursing in Meadville. Ann would go on to work for many years as an R.N. at Greenville Regional Hospital. She was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, and her hobbies included, playing bingo, sewing, and playing cards. On September 20, 1943, she married Gerard M. "Jud" Murrin, he passed away on March 31, 1988.Survivors include four daughters, Elaine Gaus of Greenville, Gene Marie Murrin of Greenville, Margaret Moder and her husband William of Hermitage, and Anne Portz and her husband Matthew of Pittsburgh, six sons, Nelson Murrin of Mentor, OH, Rev. Dolores Thomas (Fleury), former Pizza Villa owner, 91, passed away in Zephyrhills, Fla., on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014. She was a Depression-era child and knew poverty and hard work. Dolores dropped out of school to help support her family during the Depression. She worked on the family farm in Guys Mills, and for Talon and the Viscose in Meadville. During World War II, she operated a crane in a Pittsburgh Steel Mill while her husband was in the Navy. Her best known business enterprise was her association with Pizza Villa — first, at the lower Chestnut Street location, and later at the present South Main Street location. She started as a minimum wage waitress at the Chestnut Street store and through hard work and a keen business sense, she advanced to shift manager, co-owner and eventually, owner. She is remembered as practical and an exceptionally hard worker. She eventually lived above the Pizza Villa and its famous icon, “Luigi,” whose custom made costumes changed with the seasons. She retired from the pizza business in the ’80s and became a snowbird (Florida term for northern visitors). She seasonally traveled to her beloved trailer in Florida. Along with her partner Ed O’Nan, she made the southern trek back and forth many years until his death in the early ’90s. She then moved permanently to her special retreat. At Hunters Run she met her current husband, Will Fleury, and married him in 2003. Together they lived at the park until her passing. She recently was honored at Hunters Run Resort’s 25th Anniversary celebration, where she was cited as an original member. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Thomas, in 1963; mother, Theresa; father, Silvio Cosner; and brother, George. Survivors include her beloved husband, Will Fleury of Zephyrhills; daughter, Melinda (Larry) Crawley of Ringgold, Ga.; son, Gary (Pat) of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Steve Skiles, and Amy, Karen and Rick Moran-Thomas; great-grandchild, Meghan Skiles; and sister-in-law, Donna Cosner of Conneaut Lake. A Florida funeral was held Feb. 1 and a private Meadville interment will take place on Saturday. She will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery with her first husband, Dick Thomas. After the interment a memorial celebration will be held at the Pizza Villa Annex, 962 S. Main St., Meadville, from 1 to 5 p.m., with a 2:30 memorial service. Grace Irene (Frank) Carlson, 93, of Shrewsbury, Mo., passed away at Garden View Care Center in Chesterfield, on Friday, April 8, 2016. She was born in St. Louis on June 11, 1922, the daughter of Henry and Ethel (Stevens) Frank.She leaves her daughter-in-law Lorena Carlson; son Dick Carlson and wife LeAnn; son Bob Carlson and wife Joan; son Jack Carlson and wife Karen, grandsons Rob, Sean, Sam, granddaughters Erin, Maggie, Audrey, Jill, Brea, Lauren, and five great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert G. Carlson in 1986 and her son, Bill Carlson in 1995.A graduate of Rosati-Kain High School, she was later employed with American Brake Shoe, and there met her future husband, Robert. Married in 1948, they moved to Meadville, PA, and it was there that they raised their four sons. She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church. A devoted wife and loving mother, her passion was caring for her family. A promotion for Robert with American Brake Shoe took the family to Cleveland for a four-year period, and a subsequent promotion returned the family to Meadville. Alma Doris (Geary) Bucher passed away on January 12, 2018 after a brief illness and a long life. She was born on April 22, 1931, in Charleston, WV. Her family, including her younger sisters Miriam and Janice, moved to Pittsburgh in 1936. Alma attended Westinghouse High, was an undergraduate at Carnegie Tech, and completed graduate studies at Edinboro State College, earning degrees in English. While at Carnegie, she joined the Lutheran Student Center, where she met many of her life-long friends and her future husband, John. She and John married and moved to Philadelphia, where Alma began her career as a teacher and John was assigned to his first congregation as a minister. She and John spent many happy years together in Erie and Saegertown before returning to Pittsburgh in 1982. During this time, she continued teaching while raising three boys, Eric (currently in Maryland), Douglas (currently in Texas), and Stephen (currently in California). After being surrounded by men for so long, she was blessed by daughters-in-law Laura and Kirsten. She loved reading, her family, her church, chocolate, and tea. She was thrilled to be a grandmother to Nicholas (8) and Charlotte (5). Her grandson has her heart and her granddaughter has her spirit. Alma played guitar, sang in the church choir, devoured crosswords, and could passionately discuss literature and argue politics with the best of them. She lost her beloved John in 1996 and her baby sister Janice in 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged for Meals on Wheels, where she volunteered for many years. Her sons, grandchildren, and friends will miss her sense of fair play, her sense of fashion, her sense of humor, and her good sense. We take comfort knowing she is with her Lord and her husband, and that her impact on this world remains intact in the kids she raised, the students she taught, and the people she volunteered to help. Bernice E. (George) Braden, 85, of Conneautville, formerly of Springboro, passed away Monday December 26, 2016 at Rolling Fields Eldercare Community. She was born April 30, 1931 to the late Clyde and Frances (Wells) George. She married Leo J. Braden September 13, 1949. He preceded her in death March 18, 2003.She retired from Toteline in Linesville as a pre-form operator. She was a member of the Circle B Saddle Club and the BC Club. GUYS MILLS — Virginia Mae (Ginny) McFadden Proper, 84, of State Hwy. 198, Guys Mills, left her residence to be with the Lord April 13, 2008. She was born in Corry Oct.1, 1923, daughter of the late Forrest L. and Florence Garnett McFadden. She married Richard C. Proper Aug. 2, 1942, and he preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1988. A 1941 graduate of Randolph High School, she worked at Talon, and for 25 years as a teacher's aide in the Penncrest School District, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees, was the former secretary of the Union Cemetery Association, Guys Mills, and especially enjoyed being with her family. Mrs. Proper was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills. Survivors include five children, Carol Miller and her friend Rick Cady of Guys Mills; Ronald G. Proper and his wife Bonnie of Saegertown; Richard E. Proper and his wife Judith of Erie; Larry D. Proper and his wife Connie of Guys Mills; and Cindy McKissock and her husband Scott of Cambridge Springs; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Turner, Kim Turner Ryan, Amy Proper Hough, Kari Proper Ferguson, Mark Proper, Greg Proper, Lisa Proper Sands, Andrea Proper Giliberto, Cindy Proper Doyle, and Ryan McKissock; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma McFadden and her companion Jack York of Guys Mills; a brother, William F. Betsy Lynette (Glancy) Zaker, age 53, of Greenwood Township, passed away at her sister's home in Meadville on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Phyllis Ann (Goetz) Amolsch, age 88, of Conneaut Lake, PA passed away peacefully at her home on April 23, 2019. She was born in Meadville, PA on October 29, 1930 to the late, John Goetz and Irene (Chapel) Goetz. She married Elvin Amolsch in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1979.Phyllis was employed at Berky's Diner and retired from Molded Fiberglass.She was of the Christian faith. Annabelle Louise (Griffith) Hoyt - 91, died peacefully in her sleep, and went to be with her Lord Jesus on March 6, 2018. She was born on August 29, 1926, in Leechburg, PA to Jesse and Lela (Jewart) Griffith. She was raised in Meadville, PA, and graduated salutatorian from Meadville High School.She married Eugene Paxton Hoyt of Meadville, PA in 1945 and had three children, Mark, Grant, and Jessica. They divorced in 1961, and she never remarried.She entered the workforce and held a number of positions, including stenographer for the Santa Ana Police Department, executive secretary at Autonetics, worked for the US Census Bureau, and as the night supervisor at the Tustin Hacienda retirement home. She always chose employment that would allow her to be with her children during their formative years.Annabelle had a beautiful soprano voice and really enjoyed singing in church choirs and doing soloist work. She composed beautiful poetry and published a book of her works, "A Light in the Window", which she also illustrated.She was a woman of great faith, who loved the Lord from the time she was a little girl. Her spiritual gift was that of helping, and visiting the sick. She was the first person through the door when anyone she knew had been hospitalized. She was generous to a fault.Annabelle is survived by sisters Julia Trudelle Dibble and Vernie Hope Smith; children Mark Hoyt (Linda) and Jessica Zechiel (David); grandchildren Kristen Hoyt, John Zechiel (Eleanor), and Alexander Zechiel (Heather); great-grandchildren Noah Zechiel and baby girl Zechiel, due March 26th.

Bertha (Hammermeister) Sauer died September 19, 2017 in White House TN. She was born February 16, 1928 in Springboro PA to Friedrich and Helen (Tews) Hammermeister.Excelling at academics and sports, she attended Edinboro State Teachers College. After teaching at Erie Day School, she moved to Alaska where she met and married Hugh Sauer in 1952. She taught in a one-room school.After a move to western NY, she taught in public schools and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran, North Boston NY. In retirement she hiked 500 miles of the Appalachian Trail and served in the Peace Corps with her husband.Predeceased by her daughter, Audrey, she is survived by daughters April (John) Whitt, Jennifer (James) Meyers, Roberta (Michael) Hillhouse, sons Hugh (Mary) and Timothy (Sue) Sauer, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Patricia LuAnna (Hart) Bernat, 65, of Linesville, was born January 15, 1952, and passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, after a 5-year struggle with cancer.The daughter of Walter E. and LuAnna M. Hart, formerly of Linesville, she graduated from Linesville Conneaut Summit High School in 1969. She married Peter E. Bernat, of Linesville, on December 27, 1969, at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville. She attended LPN school at Spencer Hospital and spent her nursing career working at Spencer Hospital and worked at the doctor's offices of Dr. Robert Symons, and Dr. Victor Farrah. She also worked briefly at Ohio Rubber Co. and Andover Industries Inc.She enjoyed being with friends and family, especially her two daughters, Amy M. Woods and husband, Terry, and Mary Margaret E. Caragan and husband, Napoleon, both of Norfolk, Virginia. Her greatest joy was spending time with her three grandchildren, Christopher Woods, Victoria Woods and Andrew Caragan. She also left behind three sisters, Donna Seiler, Becky Jane Pavlik, Carol Ann Kane, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dale and Douglas Hart.She loved to keep busy with cross stitch, sewing, watching football and traveling. Nina L. (Haskins) King age 101 died peacefully on Easter Saturday at her residence, Villa St. Martha's, in Downingtown Pa. with two of her children (Frederick and Margaret) at her side.She was born in Mobile Alabama Feb. 8, 1915, daughter of Raymond M. Haskins and Maude Adel Eaton. She graduated from St. Edwards High School in Corry PA in 1932 and Spencer Hospital School of Nursing 1936 with an RN degree. She retired as Director of Nursing Service 1977.She married Robert A. King (deceased) of Meadville in 1937. During WWII when Robert was in the Navy Nina was a school nurse. She later became a night supervisor and then administrator at Spencer Hospital. Upon retirement she was a Crawford County visiting nurse. She spent her life in the service of her community providing medical assistance and comfort to any in need. She has been an inspiration and role model for many.She was a member of St. Brigid Church until her move 9 years ago to Downingtown PA.She is survived by her three children, Frederick M King of Hampton, Va., Roberta L King Of Vail, Az., Margaret C Mailliard of Downingtown, Pa. She has nine grandchildren and 16 Great grandchildren. She has 17 nieces and nephews and their families. After suffering an aortic dissection, Holly Marie (Hatheway) Passmore was lying in a bed in the intensive care unit of UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh on May 29, 2019 at approximately 3:40 p.m. Her life companion, Gene Laughner, whispered something to her that no one else could hear. She took her last breath and then left this life to proceed to the next. Her father, James F. Hatheway, her paternal grandparents, Charles R. Hatheway and Lola Hatheway, and maternal grandparents, John Franczak and Ceclia Franczak, were undoubtedly standing at the pearly gates waiting for her arrival.Holly was born on May 2, 1969 in Meadville, the daughter of James F. Hatheway and Adele D. Hatheway. She grew up in Meadville. She graduated from Meadville Area Senior High School in 1987.She is survived by her mother, Adele D.
